ribbon was exhibited in Choja-machi area in Nagoya city during the Aichi Triennale 2010. Focusing on the distinctive eaved roofs of the covered arcades in this wholesale district (as well as the absence of electric poles and cables in downtown Nagoya), Shimura devised a video installation that converted these eaves into screens. Live-action footage of colorful ribbons fluttering down onto semi-translucent corrugated plastic boards was screened from a projector installed on the roof of a shop. Although this work was exhibited only after sunset, the installation helped to create a new gazebo-like public space by night along a quiet shopping arcade that gave pride of place to these eaves.
