Nobuhiro Shimura

Born in 1982 in Tokyo, Japan. Completed his master’s degree in Imaging Arts and Sciences at Musashino Art University in 2007 and was a visiting researcher at the Institut National des Langues et Civilisations Orientales (INALCO) in Paris from 2016-18. As a contemporary artist, he has presented video installations based on familiar everyday objects and landscapes at museums and art festivals around the country. From 2013 to 2015, he stayed in Yamaguchi City where he was involved in the projection of 35mm films at the Yamaguchi Center for Arts and Media [YCAM] cinema. He began to produce films with a documentary approach. His projects deal with subjects that evoke memories of forgotten places and reweave history from a unique perspective based on meticulous fieldwork. In recent years, he has been exploring the documentary and temporal nature of video media by incorporating archival materials such as films left behind in the region into his installations. Major collections include the Aichi Prefectural Museum of Art and the Yamaguchi Prefectural Museum of Art. Currently based in Chiba.
